Why life is so hard ?
Hi guys, how are you? We hope our Lord Jesus Christ always with you in every step that you take. In this article, we would like to answer one of the big questions in this life. The question is why life is so hard?
A few years ago after just graduated from one of the University in Australia, I tried to get a full-time job. Thanks to The Lord that my application is accepted by one of small local company. There are only 15 people working in that company. Even though, the company itself is not big. I am grateful to be able to have my first full-time job in Australia.
One unique thing from my new company was their policy of remote working. We only met every 2 weeks and did whole work remotely for the rest of the time. Yes, this was long before the covid-19 pandemic happened, about 6 years ago. I needed to go through probation for 3 months and thanks God I passed it. However, after working for 5 months I was made redundant.
When I heard about this redundancy decision I felt it’s not fair. I had been working so hard and did not do anything wrong. I asked the company to reconsider its decision. The situation was difficult because I was waiting for my permanent residency at the same time. I afraid the status of my working condition has an effect on the decision that will be made.
I believe that I am not the only one that has this kind of situation. Sometimes we feel that we have been giving it all. You guys probably work every day from early morning until late at night. We work hard for our family. However, there are always bills that come at the end of the month that need to be paid. We feel 24 hours is not enough and we need more time to get more money.
There is also an emergency situation which makes us feel more hopeless. When your loved one is sick then the money that has been saved for something good in the future need to be withdrawn. Even worse, accidents could happen anytime and we never ready for one.
Why life is so hard?
We feel life is so hard because originally we are not designed for these struggle we have been experiencing and witnessing in the world. Human was created at first with assignments to look after and care the garden of Eden. It is not human purpose of life but it is an assignment that was given by God. (we will talk about the purpose of our life next time).
‘And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. ‘ Genesis 2:15
Garden of Eden is completely different from our backyard garden. The garden that made by God thyself (Genesis 2:8). Every beautiful tree and fruitful tree are made by God for humans. This beautiful garden has four rivers that provide more than enough nutrition and water for everything in the garden. Thus, the task of taking care of the garden of Eden is very easy. It’s literally like walking in the park.
Human was not made to plant or grow tree. The only task that given to human was taking care garden of Eden. When human committed to sin, God cursed the soil so it’s no longer giving the nutrition the trees and plants need. Without nutrition, the tree is dying and human needs to put effort to make the tree fruitful. It produces thorns and thistles humans. (Genesis 3:17–18)
What happened in the garden of Eden cannot be reversed. God cannot withdraw His word. A human cannot go back to the garden of Eden. We must work hard to find food and die. However, God is good! God provides a way for us to come back to Him.
Our Father God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ to the earth. He replaced us to die on the cross. Lord Jesus, our Creator, did what Adam failed to do. Lord Jesus Christ is the way back to Father God. Only through Him, we can go back to have a relation with Father God and live the eternal life.
‘Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ‘ John 14:6
We can be grateful and put our hope in Lord Jesus Christ as long as we live on this earth. When life is getting hard come to the Lord and shout to Him. He will give you peace and power to win in every life situation.
Yes, life is hard. And Jesus never promises an easy life anyway. The better question is not why life is hard. But the better question is if life is accidental and everything is by chance… Why is there beauty after all? — Ps. Tanwin Tanoto
God uses difficulty in this life to prepare our mind and spirit so we will be a winner when we are facing a harder situation. We don’t know what God plan for us in the future. But what we do know His plan always bring us hope and goodness (Jeremiah 29:11).

When I lost my job, people around me reminded me to come to God and trusted my life and future in Him. I listened to what they said and put more time to pray and keep my trust in Him. Praise God, 1 week later I got a new job! A much better one than my previous job! He never failed anyone who put their hope and trust in Him. And His plan is always the best in His Own best time.
Let’s pray, Lord Jesus Christ thank you for coming to the world and became nothing like us, as human. Thank you for Your sacrifice on the cross so we can go back to You. Please give us the strength to face every day if our life, especially on the hard day. Teach us to always put our faith and hope in You until the end. amen
